Fred Jones
Back Fred Jones, guard for the NBA's Toronto Raptors, became a spokesperson for the Oregon National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program in August 2005. Raised in a Portland suburb, Jones played at the collegiate level at the University of Oregon where he earned a bachelor's degree in sociology as well as First Team All-Pac 10, Third Team All American honors, respectively. He was the NBA's 2004 Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk Champion and the Pacers first round draft choice in 2002.
The Oregon National Guard Youth ChalleNGe asked Jones to be a spokesperson after an informal poll of Class 2005-1 identified him as an "Oregonian teenagers admire and respect."
"I hope that my association with Oregon National Guard Youth ChalleNGe will raise awareness about the program with at-risk teens and their parents as well as serve as motivation for cadets to strive to do their very best every day. For our cadets, anything in life is possible with commitment, hard work and focus," Jones said.
"I look forward to representing the Oregon National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program."
