A handful of Suffolk teenagers who were unsuccessful in school and heading down a dangerous path decided to take charge of their future and enroll in a program to help get their lives back on track.

Taylor Layne, Louis Rodriguez, Anthony Talley and David Wicks were on the brink.
"I hated school," Rodriguez said.

At 17, he was on the verge of dropping out of high school. Layne and Wicks, both 16, were not doing well in school and were headed in the same direction.

Talley was suspended from Nansemond River High School and stopped going because officials threated to expel him, he said.

They all turned to the Virginia Commonwealth ChalleNGe.
