BATTLE CREEK - The cadets kept their military bearing as they entered their classrooms.

The 110 teens wore canteens around their waists, camouflage boonies on their heads and rucksacks on backs, ready to carry folders, pencils and school assignments.

This was the start of school Monday at Michigan Youth ChalleNGe Academy, the state’s one-of-a-kind military school for at-risk teens.
