BASES FOR CHANGE
By Scott Martindale

LOS ALAMITOS – A military boarding school for high school dropouts could open as early as January, attracting at-risk youths from across the state.
The National Guard plans to enroll and house about 200 students annually on the Joint Forces Training Base, where they will live in a military-style environment, complete with uniforms and daily formations. It will be the second such program in California.
The cadets, ages 16 to 18, will voluntarily commit themselves to the 22-week program and work toward their high school diplomas and GEDs. There is no obligation to serve in the military after completion of the program.
