ACADEMY RECRUITS AT-RISK YOUTH

Program that helps youths improve grades, lifestyles will hold session at Taylor armory today.

TAYLOR -- Lilly Parmelee, 16, was headed nowhere -- fast.

Before she decided to attend the Michigan Youth Challenge Academy, she was a drug and alcohol user. School also was one of the last things on her mind, carrying a grade-point average as low as 1.0.

But nearly 18 weeks later, Parmelee is carrying a 4.0 grade-point average and has plans for college.
