TARHEEL CHALLENGE CADET SAYS PROGRAM HELPING HIM

David Parks is getting a chance to change his path in life.

Parks, the 17-year-old son of Phil and Beverly Parks of Elizabethtown, was a student at East Bladen High School until Dec. 21. He is now a cadet at Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy in Salemburg.

Tarheel ChalleNGe is a branch of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program. It consists of a 22-week phase in which the cadets live in a dormitory setting on the academy campus followed by a one-year mentoring phase for each youth.
